It's the MENU:CenterEn function. When OFF, the center key does not
adjust the center frequency when in tracking mode.

Thanks for the replies.
Nothing truly 'fatal' about the error message I got; after I corrected the
source of the problem (I failed to tighten the DB9 retainer screws and
bumped the wires) it was quite simple to cycle the power and hold certain
buttons down to effect a reset.
