Took me a couple of hours - but, I work slowly and am very careful.
I do not have the P3 and now doubt if I ever will. The K3 failed several
weeks after the installation was done. Unknown if one factor is related
to the other.

I think that I need to add KXV3a to my K3 if I want to connect a PAN
adaptor or P3 of some sort. So do I have the right item identified.
Currently I do not have that option installed. It seems a low cost item
but the bigger question is what is a reasonable amout of time required
to install

Yes you will need the KXV3A.
I originally did not have the KXV3A and I later added it to my K3. It is a
very easy option to install. That was a few years ago but I would venture to
say that it took far less than one hour. You'll have to first remove the I/O
