look for the SMA connector next to the BNC antenna connector.
That will tell you if the KX3 has a 4M or 2M module. Opening it
up is quite easy, as it is the way you change the internal
batteries, so that works too. If the installer checked the 2M or
4M box on the transverter, you get a clue as

Yes, it will have an SMA connector for the 2 meter antenna out the same
side as the BNC antenna connector.

I'd imagine you can't select the 2M band if the module isn't installed...

Mike,
Yes, look for the 2 meter antenna jack - an SMA connector near the BNC jack.

If it has the 2 m module, there is an SMA jack on the right end. Otherwise,
there is a plastic plug in the hole.

If it's fitted (correctly) the should be a gold plated SMA female connector
near the HF BNC.

When I wired an addition to our house some 40 or so years ago,
one of my circuits from the service box started in Romex,
converted to steel conduit, and then back to Romex. Since the
grounding connections were properly bonded to each other, the
building inspector in Los Gatos, CA approved it.

Ahh, I think that would work. If the conduit works as ground (which I
think it does here) I could use the kind pictured in the link below, and
wire up a the power cable using the two hots and ground as you recommend:

It depends on the building code used by local jurisdiction. In many
jurisdictions, it IS legal to use conduit as the green wire IF it is
I know this question doesn't directly pertain to the KX3 but I trust the
guidance of many on this mailing list so I hope you will indulge me in this
off topic post. I am looking to combine satellite (easy sats) with my

Hi David,
Yes it does. There are 4 memories playable from the front panel
and there is another selectable bank of four. They are programmable using the
internal keyer or the utility program.

The way the second part of the question is phrased it looks as if you are
asking if there is a memory that increments a counter per QSO, i.e. 599 001,
599 002,
It would be easiest to use one's skill and send this using a paddle.
Ideally the signal strength should be derived from the receiver's
S-meter. RST599 at my QTH is the very much the exception than the rule.
It should not be beyond the bounds of possibility these days,
electronically to compute

The K3 has two banks of 4 CW message memories each. They are selectable

Yes. Use the K3 Utility to edit the CW memories, assign them to the
M1-M4 buttons. There are more available than just that, but I only use
the M1-M4.

I got similar results into a high swr. If I try 100w into a 1.6:1 swr 6m
antenna i get high current alarms and it shuts down at 92W. At 88W it is Ok
and doesnt alarm. I took the cushcraft 5ele down (after 5 years) and re
swr'd it to 1:1 and now I can run 100W without issue
Normally i dont run
Getting ready for the contest. When I transmit on 6 at 92 watts and SWR of
1.7, the power shuts down after 30 seconds of transmitting. Re-transmitt
and it's OK for another 30 seconds. ???

What mode? FSK? Is you power supply shutting down and not the K3? What's the

You can also monitor the power supply
voltage with the K3.

Tap DISP, then turn VFO B until you get the display with A to the
side. What kind of current are you pulling with 92 watts into 1.7 SWR
when it shuts off? Also turn VFO B until PA shows on the display,
what temperature are you getting when it shuts off?

Take that back... Looks like Mouser's website was lying that that was a
5mm diameter cap Its actually 6.3mm which is going to be too big...
So I did a bit more digging and found:

I think this capacitor may fit into the C9 and C13 area next to the
headphone. This is an only 10V cap rather than the 25V cap that

Somewhat OT, but can someone email me off-list a few of my options for small
paddles for my K1 field ops? I believe there is something like White Rook, or
some such? Please don't tell me about handmade stuff. I do not do well with
small, home-made items.
Is the KX1 paddle a viable option?
