I have (this is from memory, so pls check): - installed an IC socket instead of the RS232 driver, and left the driver chip out. The KPA100 can't do any RS232 conversion in this config, and letting the chip out makes cabling a little easier. - Left out the speaker and replaced it with a piece of black plastic, again, no need, and I'm saving the LSP as I'm considering putting the LSP in front of the KAT/KPA box; the LED display isn't very informative and I'd like to see what sound I get with speaker in front. (Eric says won't be good and I haven't tried). - Not installed the DB9 connector on the KAT100. The KAT100/KPA100 box only needs one DB9 connector, the other connector enclosure hole is filled up with a blind panel. - The KAT100 gets it's AUXbus signalling from the flatcable between KPA100 and KAT100. Should you ever want to install the KPA100 in the K2 itself, then you can just socket the RS232 chip. The KAT100 is useless w/o KPA100 counterpart, but in my case I've *never* felt a need to transplant the KPA100; I don't even have the right shielding for it.
