I didn't see the original post on this, but I believe it to be about the removal of a Morse test to get a US license (if I'm wrong, forgive me).
The UK did that around Aug/Sep 2003 and it has encouraged many more people to take up the hobby (myself included). Although there was the novice license and then that changed to foundation (nether of which required Morse), I think a number of people still had the thought in the back of their mind that they would have to learn Morse (I did). That has all changed. In no way do I think this will kill CW, in fact it is clearly revitalising it, with new comers deciding that having got their license, they will take up morse. For QRP DX etc, its the only way to go. I'm going to take my Advanced exam in October and once I've passed that, fully expect to work on my morse, because its something I want to do, but I want to get my full license first. And, while working towards CW, can still be an active Ham. Without the removal of the requirement, I probably wouldn't have taken up the hobby, nor I suspect would 10s (if not 100s) of others.
