[Elecraft] Use KXUSB for K3?

Is it possible to use the KXUSB  for remote control (e.g. HRD) of the K3 
(RS-232 interface)
The 3,5mm jack has only 3 contact rings, i suppose RXD, TXD and Gnd.
If it is not possible to use a "jack to DB-9 converter", would it be 
possible to cut off the jack and install a DB9 connector? What is the 
wire colour coding in the cable?
