Tom,

That is not normal.

First see if the problem is with your CW filter itself or it is in the
filter switching on the KSB2 board. Proceed as follows:

If you have a steady signal source of known frequency and amplitude, tune
that signal on the K2, noting the s-meter or audio level for both SSB and CW
modes, then don't touch the VFO except to fine tune the same signal in the
following steps.

Remove the KSB2 board and insert jumpers between pins 1 and 3 of the two 3
pin headers (a clipped off component lead will do.

Turn the K2 on (you will only have the CW filter available) - tune in your
reference signal and see how strong it is in CW mode.

If the signal in CW mode was weak both times, then you have a problem in the
base K2 crystal filter. OTOH, if the signal is now stronger in CW mode (as
I suspect it will be), the problem was on the KSB2 board.

Tell us your results and we will help further - of course, the first line of
action is to check the soldering and check all components (especially
diodes) for proper orientation. On the KSB2 board check that the wire on
the two small toroid chokes has not been scraped and is shorting to the
crystal cans (put a piece of paper between the chokes and the crystals as a
check).
