Actually it's ONE press, thanks to the way the radio rotates through the
bands, but I get your point. It's never more than five presses, worst case.

I've not hung around reflectors or groups of Hams interested in highly
competitive radio operating, so watching these posts is very interesting to
me.

I'm reminded of other sports in which people have all sorts of preferences
for how to save a millisecond of time or an erg of energy; preferences that
rise to the level of absolute necessity to be competitive.

For them, competition is what it's all about.

99.9% of the "enhancements" requested by people here are, to me, about as
interesting as watching paint dry.

But they are very important to those for whom Ham radio is all about
tweaking an configuring things to be the best they can be for whatever
reason.

I'm reminded of strapping on my old "boards" and skiing the slopes in the
Sierra Nevada, enjoying the wind, the air and the cold. Then, sitting at the
bottom of the hill enjoying a frosty beer (it tastes especially good in the
cold), I'd listen to others around me fretting over exactly the right wax to
use or why they can't raise enough money to buy those new skis they really
*need* to enjoy the sport.

It's all in what you look for in the activity.
