Hi Eric,
I thought of the palm mini but like the idea of a paddle attached to the
KX1/KX3. We agree the KX1 paddle sucks. Sorry Elecraft, I have an awful
lot that is good

I found the KX1 paddle to be, at best, an acquired skill. One that I
chose not to acquire. I used the frame to homebrew a tiny touch paddle,
but that was just for fun. It worked very nicely, but required a button
battery that I didn't want to have to depend on when camping. I settled

Good morning, Doug. You can not use the KX3PD paddle directly with the
KX1 because the KX3PD is a two point mount and uses a very
different plug and jack arrangement, whereas, the KX1PD is a single
point mount and the plug is an integral 1/8 inch stereo.
If you wanted to use the KX3PD with th
Bob,
Yes, there is a fix, and all kits for the past (almost) 6 years have it
- it is a #6 internal tooth lockwasher that you can put on the
thumbscrew instead of the flat washer - see the KXPD1 errata - this is
why you need to read errata sheets :-)

Don, thanks! 6-32 did fit but with a little wobble. I just went
downstairs and ran a known 6-32 nut up a known 6-32 stud and it also
wobbled a bit!
So 6-32 it is after all! Funny how one can fail to notice the obvious

Stan,
Since you could not find a match, I would be suspicious of your hardware
store's stock.
It is 6-32 threads - I just threaded a 6-32 nut onto one of the thumbscrews.

Is there is setting on the KX1 to adjust which side of the
accompanying paddle is dits and which side are dahs?
Yes. I accidentally wired my paddle backwards to the way I use it, so I
just went to the menu and selected inverted.

Cliff,
I do not recall seeing your query about the KX1 paddle settings, but I
may have missed it, even though I do try to skim all the Elecraft
reflector posts.
If you look on page 65 of the KX1 owner's manual you will find the
various menu entries. INP is one of them and will allow you to s
Yes, see page 65 of the KX1 owners's manual - it's the INP menu entry
which allows the selection of hand key and normal or reversed paddles.

I've seen many people get help on here amongst the K3 info on their other
radios. I've personally helped a few with K1 problems and I've seen quite a
bit of info going back and forth about the K2. I don't have a KX1 so I
don't really have an answer for you but just because your question doesn't

I don't have this problem with my KX1, but if I ever develop it,
I suspect that the first thing I'll try is a nylon or fiber washer
under the thumbscrew. This is a reasonable attempt at a non-marking
lockwasher... and the next thing is to try an extra thin flat
washer (made from shim stock) plus a
Hi cousin Bob
Another idea is a blast from the past: it was common to use a very thin
piece of rubber band inserted before the screw. It's a bit fiddly to get it
in but it worked well in old IF transformers.

Blue Locktite is not permanent, that should do the trick.

You might try beeswax. It can act as a r
Try liquid soap; it can set fairly hard but not too hard to undo. As a matter
of fact there are several grades of Loctite but it would be a waste for just
one application. Hellerine oil also works, but, again a waste to buy a bottle.
