Al, I cannot comment offhand about any low cost commercial signal signal generator that would suit your requirements, but if you are prepared to homebrew there are many low cost options. If you did homebrew and if you needed to know the output level from the generator when using it, you would

Steve - I am going to take a chance and assume that the DDS in your address means Doctor of Dental Surgery (A dentist). Comparing Hakko 808 and a signal generator is an uncertain exercise at best. The two instruments are used for quite different purposes. The comparison might be likene

Steve, If your 'scope will indicate down to 20 mv (I assume that is peak to peak), you should be quite able to use the oscillator shown in the K2 manual - the lowest expected voltage indicated in the manual is 0.27 Vrms at the 2nd Crystal Filter Output and that is 756 millivolts peak to peak.

If you are checking the gain of the whole K2 RF and IF strip less the modification of the IF gain by the effects of AGC, yes, it is possible to use a lower output from the signal generator. However if you need to go into troubleshooting in greater depth, the 270mV / 756mV pk-pk found at

Hello J-F I would not recommend this generator, as it really isn't intended for your expected use. It is a function generator, meaning it produces sine waves, square waves, triangular waves, and so on, but it only goes up to 3 MHz. You want a regular rf signal generator, which will usually produc

Jean-Francois, Signal tracing can be quite effective - I applaud your goals. Signal tracing of a transmitter path can usually be done with only an RF probe since the signal levels are usually large enough to measure easily, although a 'scope is more informative because you can see the relative fr
