I designed the nGen for Elecraft and will try and answer your question. The
high frequency output is limited primarily by the use of thru-hole
components and layout. It actually produces significant noise output well
past 1 gHz but gradually rolls off from the rated 500 MHz. Chan

I don't know the design details, but I have a good suspicion that the top
frequency limit of the MAR-1 MMIC amplifier exceeds the noise characteristic
of the noise generating diode (D2) and the circuit board layout limitations.
