There is a bug in buffer-local-value, when used in connection with
defvaralias. I believe that the ielm run below is self-explanatory.
The bug affects `C-h v" in a very confusing way. I am insufficiently
familiar with the involved C code to fix this myself.

In a French locale, C-h T shows the French tutorial which includes some NBSP
chars which are rendered as "\ " as in "m\ emacs\ ". The \ are

Yes, but that limitation is inherent in convert-standard-filename's
mission, unless you want to add it a second argument ABSOLUTE.
