No, this in not easy to fix. The table commands are all context- sensitive, each command needs to test if the cursor is currently in a table - I do not want to mack this test more complicated that necessary. Right now it only checks if the first character in a line is "|". Going back to search for BEGIN_EXAMPLE would significantly more elaborate and slow down table editing.
