is useless to saving across an unexec. Is undump really supposed to be
saving ALL of bss? I am a bit
suspicious that this should NOT be the case, since getloadavg is one of
the files linked in after the marker

to cause other problems. It appears that state is being preserved
across undump that should not be.
Perhaps this is the reason for some strange behavior of emacs 21 under
AIX that I have never taken the time to debug -- e.g. compile mode
output sometimes gets truncated.

May be you did rebasing (especially rebase all
