Sorry, I did not read carefully enough the first time. I see custom barfs if I have a default value which is not in the allowed value list. I guess I will have to add 'ignore to the allowed value list. I wanted to avoid this because I specifically wanted people to have to choose any of the other s

I wanted to avoid this because I specifically wanted people to have to choose any of the other settings when they customized this variable. Please don't try to STOP users from doing that. Just show them that it isn't recommended. ___ emacs-
