I don't know, because I don't use them at all. I use external scp(1)
method, and that's fine.

When I investigated, the issue was not in RCP, it was in XEmacs. Writing
a chunk of data to the shell command `cat > file' on the local disk was
enough to choke it down to ~25K/second after the first ~250K of data.

I didn't bug-report this or anything because I was too busy at the time.
