Basicly I agree to your argumentation. The point why it is like it is, is
that it should be the same as in 1.3 . The difference is the different
handling of spaces, which is not part of the hidden command, but is due to
the new parser.
The point is that changing it, might break applications

Mainly some documenation cleanup's and a few rarely happeing bugs that needs
to be fixed.
Also I like to fix the linking problem on SuSE 9.3 before the final
realease.
