Group,
I have a design engineer with a power supply which is to be powered from 13.8
Vdc automobile source.
Does anyone know of any IEC or other standards for the power plug that goes into
the cigarette lighter / power plug of a vehicle.
Many Thanks.

Oscar: For North America you will need to look at J-563 (Mar. '90) in
the SAE Handbook, which gives dimensions for the socket and a few
critical ones for mating plugs. It also points out an 8A max. current
restriction. There is also a UL standard UL2089 for Vehicle Battery
Adaptors that is
For our building we used a 1500W glowing (resistive impedance load) heater.
Measure before, then turn on measure after and calculate the impedance.
Also measure adjacent branches to get a feel for how much impedance was in
the branch and how much was at the transformer and drop.

Actually, I had in mind doing the test before the panelboard, so it does not
involve weak links such as breakers, panelboards, building wiring and such.
Regarding time limit I would expect it to be rather self limiting.

Anyone know of sources for the UL1950 Impact Ball (500g, 50mm
You can make it out of string and a trailor hitch ball. The diameter might
be off just a little but get the weight and you can figure how far to swing
it to get the 5 foot/pound force.
The diameter difference, if any isn't worth $150.00, especially if you're
doing this as a pre-test before
Try Educated Design Development, Inc Raleigh NC(1-919-821-7088). They seem
to offer probes and test fingers for a little less than others, however they
still cost for what you get.
Good Luck!

Richard,
There's a note in EN55022 after paragraph 4.1 which reads as follows:

of 10 m of the apparatus concerned.

Dwight,
Educated Design Development has all of the probes. Their impact ball is
also $150.00, does sound kind of high. From their description it is a little
more than a ball bearing. They say it is 50mm diameter and 500g, which is
what the standard requires. They say it is hardened steel with a
I recently heard that the second edition of IEC 61010-1 was to be released mid
2000.
Does this 2nd edition just combine 61010-1 with it's two amendments, or is there
new and exciting
sections?
All responses are appreciated.
