Jim, Since it is less than 30Vdc, I assume it is not considered a hazardous voltage. Does the circuit driving the cable meet the requirements for a Limited-Energy Circuit? If so, then starting the cable on fire would not be a concern. Yes, the wire will need to be rated for the voltage and
