IEC/EN 60335-2-25 and IEC/EN 60335-2-90 have limits on the radiation emitted from the microwave with the door open. This includes testing with the seal broken and the door closed, when possible. The limits are pretty strict so I would be a little surprised by this. I haven’t read the article,
