Consider a Class 1 Laser Product. Once the protective cover is removed for service, it is physically possible for the 12 mm probe to be inserted into the beam where Class 2 levels are present; therefore, human exposure of a finger is possible. However, it is not physically possible to directly view the beam nor is it possible to place the measurement instrument into the beam at the specified measurement distance of 100 mm. What are the measurement requirements in this case? Must I take the system apart such that the beam can be measured? If not and since Class 2 limits are based upon viewing considerations and not finger exposure, do I get off the hook for needing the Class 2 warning label on the protective cover?
