Peter: The standard I mentioned is for EMC, dated May 2006, a previous issue was dated September 2001. This is for Telecom equipment that would be connected to the public network. ITE equipment does not fall under this standard. ITE equipment does not have to comply with EMC or safety standards

India is in the process of developing mandatory product safety, EMC regulatory programs for IT equipment however these have not been formally announced yet. They are working with local and international industry to develop these programs and standards which I believe would become effective sometime
