Subject: [Emc-users] 5i20 problems
My 5i20 has been rock solid for years but:...it urped all over me
today. No readout on the encoders.
Rebooting didn't help. The ptc in the upper right corner of the
5i20 is running hot; too hot to pinch and keep holding on.
I suppose this indicated problems downstream.
Where do I go next? Or do I simply send the board back to Peter and
see if it is repairable?
Lost in the wilderness. ;-)
Dave
If PTC1 is hot, that indicates trouble not with the 5I20 but with
one of the daughtercards or something that is powered by
daughtercard 5V
I would start by unplugging daughtercards and find the one causing
the issue And then check is its the duaghtercard itself or something
plugged into a daughtercard thats causing the trouble
I guess it could also be a flat cable short (5V to GND)
Thank you Peter. Now I have someplace to look. Guess what I do tomorrow?
Dave
The jury is still out but it looks like the problem is a failed X
encoder messing with all the encoders.
Unplug the X encoder and things got a lot better.
Better info to follow when I get it all sorted.
Dave
Reporting back:
Failed X encoder was pulling down the 5 V buss therefore inhibiting all
the encoders. X, Y and Z with an independent encoder and they
all work. So...apparently no permanent damage. :-)
Thanks Peter.
