my old single core system died and i switched to a system that has a
dual core cpu. i did a fresh install of linuxcnc 8.04, but according to
/proc/cpuinfo only one core appears to be utilized. i am not sure why
this is, running the generic kernel, multiple cores are used automatically.

i use gecko drives with 10 micro steps and i don't know if i ever lost
a step or not. i would like to add encoders to the back of my double
shafted stepper motors. i would like emc to stop all motors and report
any lost steps. i definitely don't want emc to try to make up for the

are set by shorting a pin to ground or leaving it open rather than 0 or
5v that the printer cable provides. can hal be used to provide an
open/ground
i installed emc2 using the script for the dapper system from the
linuxcnc.org website. i did not notice any errors but after i rebooted,
my printer quit working and neither parport0 or parport1 were listed in
/proc/ioports. i completely removed emc2 and reinstalled cupsys. the
printer works
