I'm having maybe similar problem. I just upgrade my box from old EMC1
and new hardware (same parallel port card). I'm running EMC2.1 Ubuntu
and having several problems. First when I boot I have not parallel ports
visible. After boot dmesg | grep par yields:

Thanks for comments. I think I'm going to wimp out and go with something a
bit fatter for now like this one:

Cheaper and will have more horse power, just a big box I don't like.
