[Emc-users] OpenCNC paper

Hi all, While browsing the interwebs I came across this new paper "Performance analysis of cross–coupled controllers for CNC machines based upon precise real–time contour error measurement" http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0890695511001659 or http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ijmachtool

A quick google turns up the MDSI page at http://www.mdsi2.com/ which states "In 1993 MDSI revolutionized manufacturing with OpenCNC® - the world’s first open–architecture, CNC software not requiring any proprietary hardware". Sounds to me like they mean "Open" in a very specific and limited sense.

Yes, some of the early(1993-1994) EMC papers from NIST also use the "open-architecture" term. A couple are referenced in the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Motion_Controller > A quick google turns up the MDSI page at http://www.mdsi2.com/ which > states "In 1993 MDSI revo

Gentle persons: The road to nirvana, or hell, depending on your point of view, is littered with slogans. The wikipedia article on "open architecture" isn't very good. The one on Webtopia is better http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/O/open_architecture.html We went from specifying open data standard

Anders, Will Shackleford went on to work for MDSI. He was there circa 2005 when I visited for training, but at that point I had not realized who he was. OpenCNC was the product that indirectly introduced me to EMC and the reason I ported the VTI driver from EMC to EMC2, as that was the board we we

Gentlemen, I have one Cinci 5 axis controlled by MDSI's OpenCNC ver 3.0 control software and Qnx 4.25 rtos. I installed the control in 1998. This machine runs reliably every day. I put OpenCNC on three Cinci 5 axis mills. One machine physically broke. My EMC2 Cinci was OpenCNC until I put EMC2 on i

Steve, I am not sure how to confirm it, short of writing someone at MDSI. I just recall that after I started working with EMC I came across his name and thinking "holy you know what", that was one of the guys at MDSI. Of course at that time I wasn't going to ask because I did not want them to know
