Problem solved.
I posted the same request on debian user list and had a reply from someone
with the exact same MB
It is really just a matter of running:
# apt install firmware-amd-graphics
but since I was in recovery mode I needed to get to the internet. A
little googling and I found
By the way. I had that video card problem both with the stock Debian distro
and with the LCNC one. In both casds the nomodeset command solved the
issue.

The firmware it is talking about is the linux firmware I think, not the
firmware on the board.
