We build successful machines with 4 or 5 axes, EMC2.
Here is one of our machine with 5 axes. The machine uses servos Omron 400W,
and is controlled by EMC2 and Mesa 7i33 and 5i20 cards ...

I'm working with a company right now that is assembling a very large 5
axis machine.The too head pivots in two axes and and it is mounted
on a gantry slide to create the 5 axes. The final drive at the head is
via wide toothed belts - HTD type of similar.

I know, it's the easiest. Unfortunately, it's kinda hard to tilt a workshop
floor. With that said, I need a tilting head...

Using belts as a transmission/gearing is no problem, servo or stepper is an
open quest
