I'm rebuilding a laptop from scratch. 1. Installed Mac OSX High Sierra. 2. Installed GPGTools for Mac. 3. Imported my old private key. 4. Installed thunderbird. 5. Installed the Enigmail plugin.
At this point it alerted me that it couldn't find GPG, and gave me a handy link to install it. I chose 'cancel' because I knew I had a working copy. I was returned to the plugin screen on thunderbird and clicked settings. The settings window did indeed show that Enigmail had already found the proper executable with the correct path and was able to use it.
