The problem has disappeared. Daniel asked me to delete some old keys
from my keyring and then both, gpg and gpg2 worked fine. For further
testing i re-imported the keys again, and - surprise, surprise - still
both versions worked flawlessly.

The original problem occurs when enigmail attempts to list all keys on
my key ring. It obviously uses this command line:
/usr/bin/gpg2 --charse
