   Not only that, trace pants to pantalones.  Pantalones also was a
   character in the commedia dell' arte (early improvisional theatre)
   identified by (not suprisingly) his bright red pants.  Many people
   argue that Punch (of Punch-and-Judy fame) was derived from some of
   his traits.  So raster arguably should date Judies.
