No need for that since there is a gtk+2 theme, you just nee QGtkStyle
and configure qt to use gtk+-2 engine.

that come with it but the colors on the black background are not bright
enough for me I would like to change the colors and/or intensity.

I see something odd in the menubar, menus, and dialog boxes: options
that are greyed out don't appear as grey (or another colour), but
instead appear in a sort of double-strike style. Not quite bold, but
instead the individual characters are overlayed by a duplicate,
