Well, its not too dificult to start describing how C++ has separated from C into pretty much a very different language.
C++ templates is a pretty good starting point. But event exceptions, and the OO design options in C++ make writting an 'elegant' program in C++, very different from writting one in C. oh, and although C++ is akin to C in the 'machine code must be as lean as posible. 0 overhead' department, there is a limit to how slim you can make the code when the compiler has to take as many more options into account in C++ as oposed to C. If i'm not mistaken, it was just the other day a compiler (from the people at digital mars i think) managed to implement all the features in the 98 ISO C++ standard.
