I like to use deployment.ini to deploy Firefox. It leaves less room for
customization after deployment, but it works well enough for me. You
just need to install Firefox and copy a deployment.ini to
%programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox\distribution\.

NPAPI plugins and XUL addons have each been on notice for over a year.
Mozilla first announced deprecation for plugins in October 2015[1] and
for XUL addons in August 2015[2]. Developers have had plenty of time to
fix their software to not require plugins.

I use distribution.ini instead of AutoConfig.js. Here are some of my
prefs that you might benefit from. Distribution.ini is documented here:

You might put a reverse proxy in front of the webserver that accepts the
bad cert and uses a modern one. It would probably be easier than
modifying end-user Firefoxen.

I've spent a good bit of time today customizing Firefox for our school
using distribution.ini as documented on the Mozilla Wiki and various
blogs. This works pretty well. I am able to set some default prefs and
bookmarks.
