Karen, this is most interesting topic for me.
I made a leap into medium format thanks to one becoming much more
affordable due to digital "revolution" but being used to scan all my
35mm stuff, I'm having troubles now to realize how to handle a
high-quality digitizing of my 6x7.

FWIW, I have an Epson 3170 (not as great as the 4870 by specs) but I get
some pretty darn good results for it. So much so that I disconnected my
Canon FS 2710 dedicated film scanner, as I rarely use film, and for the
occasional times I do the 3170 is usually good enough. With that being
