I don't think this is an example of lowered expectations... just sentiment.

Sure. It's the highest-res EOS body out there. Catalog Pros and Studio
photogs want resolution over build quality. (1D: 4mp)
And why do you need the depth modes anyway?? Just look at th

I have the current "EOS System" brochure (©2001 - the one with the 400 DO
and 1D on the cover) and neither the A2 or the 1n is listed.

I think this is wishful thinking. I don't think digital is cheaper than
film. You'll need a computer of some sort. And a printer. And paper. And
cartridges. Or you can have your digital files output on say, a Fuji

Not true. I use the 70-200 IS on an A2 with 2x and all points work, as does
the IS. The TC slows AF down a bit, but it works.

Or unless there's a chance a photograph you take will not turn out like you
see it in your mind's eye. ;-)

Darn tootin'! I only bust out the Walachrome 400 when I have clients that
can afford it. ;-)
Seriously though... I've not shot the two films you were wondering about.
Sorry.
Shoot Supra100 quite a bit though.

Basically, noise appears in horizontal lines in underexposed shots. I don't
have a 1D but have been following the situation somewhat. Here's a users
first-hand account/testing of the problem.

I don't have a D30, but I've heard
I shot a few frames at my local shop's Canon Days a couple weeks ago. They
said if you didn't put your name on the waiting list when they announced
them, then it would be a long, long time before you could get one. I live
in Iowa, and Canon USA in NY has ten for the state. And they're already

Doesn't the -3 (w/PB-E2) have a shorter lag time than the A2?
If I read this chart right, it's 105 ms for the A2 vs. 64 ms for the -3.

Hi-
I was at my local camera shop yesterday and I tried out the 100-400mm
f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, and I've got a question. (that the salesman didn't seem
to know)
Is there some sort of locking device that will prevent the manual focusing
ring from also moving the zoom tension ring? Or is it a desi
