You can't upgrade the 1N to do E-TTL, however you can upgrade the 1N
to do high speed sync through a custom function.

I'm mainly a landscape/nature photographer so I don't need 5 fps and that sort of
stuff. A good/real spot meter is probably the highest on my wish list. I heard all
kinds of good prices of second hand bodies in the US, but unfortunately these prices
unheard
I went through the same process a year ago and ended up buying an
EOS-3. As others have pointed out, it all depends on what you want to
shoot. Some cool things about the EOS-3 which made me buy it are :
* multi spot metering and spot meter linked to focusing point
* excellent AF and focus trackin
I am going thru the same process. I thought about the 1n, but I might end up
getting a e-ttl body. I love my Elan II. It is easy to use, and does pretty
much everything except spot metering :-(
