I have read in one of the newsgroups in the past that a general rule of
thumb is no more than 75% of the current advertised price from a reputable
discount dealer, i.e. B&H for used gear in excellent condition. I tend to
agree for the reasons listed by Chuck below.

I'm just trying to establish a price. The EOS 3 is mint, with all packaging,
manual and materials. Same for the 540EZ flash.
It now costs about $1,200 (plus tax) new at two local camera shops. Of
course, I paid more than than, but I will take somewhat less than the going
new rate.
