Subject: [Ethereal-users] W2K Laptop
Dear List,
I have just upgraded my laptop to Win2000 (my first exposure to this
OS) and when I try to start a

frames that tethereal couldn’t capture, yet
still traversed the network? Or frame
that my computer dropped because the 10/100 interface may have had CRC errors
or something similar? Thanks.

I realize
#1 - So called Expert Reporting in commcercial packet capture apps is only as good as
what the network administrator sets the paramaters to (based in his own network). In
Fluke Protocol Expert, for example, it flags packets with ack time longer than 200 ms
using red background col
ier for me when I need to print out a capture and review it with
other engineers. This is not a really important thing, but would be
nice. Thanks.

Thanks you. My administrator views the capture file on the Stratus
rather than bringing it to his local machine. Since it's a telnet
session, my guess is that it is plain text. I will try it and post the
results.

I bet he forgot to (re)install Winpcap.
At first he said he upgraded to Win2k, then he sent another email that
stated he did a fresh installation, not an upgrade.

Hey everyone. I recently joined the list because I have dabbled with Ethereal and
like what is has to offer. So much flexibility! :)
I am a Network Engineer for a company who owns a Fluke Optiview (with Protocol Expert
for opening captures). Another company I worked for a few years back we s
troubleshooting. I have been trying
to resolve this but I am stuck! I
had another guy run Sniffer on this capture and the
Expert reporting shows long ack time and
retransmitted packets. I’m
new to Ethereal, so I’m not sure of the best method to ‘search’
for anomalies.

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've posted any type of strange and mysterious

I've used Sniffer in the past to see Top Talkers on my network. Does ethereal have a
similar way of displaying this information? Would it be "real-time" or do I capture
first, then view the capture? I have a freeware utility (for Windows) called Show
Traffic that is based off the Linux progr
newal and the cost is $3,999 for 1 year..
Thanks again!
