Short answer: U3 is Windows software that just happens to be
particularly well embedded in some memory sticks. There is no Linux

Yes, I had found K3b later on (not sure if I should blame it on the new
'progresive' lenses I am supposed to wear all the time, or the fact that
that I had forgotten to start knoppix with fromhd=/dev/... )-:
BTW, K3b also has a Verify option, and it works

start with "cdrecord --scanbus" (maybe only one dash), IIRC,
to see what devices you have :)
