Thank you all for your suggestions.

Not that you need a transcript of my stay in Portland, but...

As it turned out, I got up to Portland a little bit late. I met Bryan
(the friend who's going to MIT) at the hostel somewhere around 18th
and Couch. We walked to visit the Japanese Gardens, but it was almost
closing time and a lot of the garden was hidden by the shade of the
tall trees, so we skipped it. We got a good hike getting there
though.

We then walked to the Mission Theatre (didn't know it was a McMenamins
until I got there) and saw a movie and beer and stuff. Not exactly
the Bagdad, but still cool in my opinion.

Afterward, we walked around until we ended up at Ground Kontrol. I'd
been there before, but it was as cool as ever.

At some point we stopped at Powell's bookstore, and I bought I copy of
"I, Robot" with the retro 70's/80's futuristic robot on the front
cover (not the cover with Will Smith).

I said goodbye, and ended up spending the night at my brother's place.
The next day I went with my brother and niece to OMSI.

Overall, it was a fun weekend.
