Oops, ya, it's WPA encrypted, but I've got to trust my sysadmin. I was
more referring to the big bad web.

Otherwise, you're generally safe from viruses and malware but
packet sniffing is still a reality no matter what the OS. As
long as the traffic is encrypted on secure connection

around for a solution - nice timing! I should mention that after
changing my usplash.conf from 1280x1024 to 1024x768, running
update-usplash-theme wasn't enough. As suggested by some in bug report,
I had to run:
sudo update-in
I can't believe it's been this long and strange trip. I spent most of it
getting a solid wireless connection: including moving computers into the
garage, buying specific equipment, etc.
