Bob, dual-booting is a real pain in the bohunkus for making the transition from Windows to Linux. Not that many have not done it that way, but running Linux on a virtual machine atop Windows works very well. An easy install is kubuntu (I did v. 9.10 recently) To start with it only requires ca. 3 GB. (but you may want at least 10GB to grow it) Though easy, still try the advanced/expert mode when you chose the partition for the OS (I had an ext3 prepared, but the installer's default was to resize an
