Sometimes added to gain software deemed "illegal" in the USA
such as software so you can watch a DVD on your computer that
you legally own and are entitled to watching.

I'm 0.5 for three with upgrading Dapper to Edgy. Two of them failed
so completely that I had to wipe, install, and restore backups. The
third one is broken in small ways*, but it boots, and I haven't had
time to reinstall.
See that surprises me. I have one system that went from 5.10, to 6.06,

From what I have seen the transition from 6.06 to 6.10 (dapper to
edgy) is the dodgy one.
init is different from one to the other, so don't expect to just
switch repositories apt-get dist-upgrade and have done with it. if
you've set up anything that will start on boot or execute at shutdown

Today there is only one Ubuntu LTS release: 6.06. Does anyone know
whether the Ubuntu project intends to support directly upgrading from
6.06 to the next LTS release (7.10 or whatever it ends up being)?
Or will we have to drag our servers through the slime of upgrading to
6.10, 7.04, and then 7.1
