I keep hearing these horror stories of going from dapper to edgy. I've upgraded at least a dozen installations from d->e and not one went sideways. All of them were "desktop" installations with the usual mess of binary drivers, restrictced codecs, etc. I think the key is not to use third-party rep

From what I have seen the transition from 6.06 to 6.10 (dapper to edgy) is the dodgy one. init is different from one to the other, so don't expect to just switch repositories apt-get dist-upgrade and have done with it. if you've set up anything that will start on boot or execute at shutdown you

Today there is only one Ubuntu LTS release: 6.06. Does anyone know whether the Ubuntu project intends to support directly upgrading from 6.06 to the next LTS release (7.10 or whatever it ends up being)? Or will we have to drag our servers through the slime of upgrading to 6.10, 7.04, and then 7.1
