vehicle is running - not when the vehicle is charging the main battery.
This is why you will find reports of EVSE "damaging" the 12V battery.

I thought the solar panels near the back were supposedly charging the
12v battery. Of course, if the car is in a garage most of the time, that
won't help much. I park outside and have had no problems with the 12v. I
don't know the current capacity of the battery.

this battery should not exist. It's just something to break or wear
out. Instead the DC/DC converter should run all the time (yes, it's
possible to build such a converter that is efficient at low loads), and

The reason the DC2DC converter does NOT run all the time is that (for
safety) Nissan has chosen to disconnect the HV battery from the rest of
the car (with contactors inside the main battery) whenever the car is
turned off. [Meaning that the ONLY place in the car where HV is present
is inside t

can the DC-DC be inside the battery box and, therefore, run while the
contactors are open ? If this were done, would it eliminate the need for
a 12v battery ? Could there be a switch for setting the car to

I guess you would have to calculate amp hours to cranking power if you went
lithium. However I suspect the little lithium motorcycle batteries would be
best suited as they could survive the constant 14.4 to 13. 8v DC to DC charge.
I guess I should check by testing or ask what the charging cycle
