Locking freewheel is easy, but the derailleur will never work with regen.
See for yourself what would happen. Grap the freewheel with a chainwhip, etc.
and hold it still while you try to back pedal. That's what's going to happen
when you try to regen.

I can't see anyway that could work. Perhaps with a fixie or an internal geared
hub, but not a derailure

So, even the 2011 has a modest heater, then ? I believe you. However,
how do you explain the vast difference between range (kWh during
charging) in winter 20F versus comfortable weather 70F ?

Every battery I have taken apart that has heaters, has a total of 6:
2 on top of the halfpack,
2 midway between the quarterback stacks and
2 in the front of the battery, next to the first high stack of the
quarter packs.
The resistance is in the order of 10kOhm and all heaters are in
parallel, conn
I think you'd be safer to do something with the disk brake mechanism (on
most newer bikes).
You really need to tie regen to pressing the brake levers so that the
rider can immediately cut-out regen in an emergency. In other words,
regen would only engage when the brake lever is pulled.

This could be possible with derailleur and freewheel locking. I wonder if this
exists? Lawrence Rhodes

Honestly, I don't think I would want regen on a bike. If it locks your
wheel on wet pavement or a patch of rotting leaves, you'll go down. Or,
even possibly on dry pavement in some cases.
I suppose you could have an override, but I'm not sure how you could add
another control that is quickly a

It seems the only restriction to regen on a mid drive electric bike system is a
locking derailleur. If there were such a thing then that would make it possible
to have regen ...however is the derailleur itself able to be made strong enough
to capture the force. Lawrence Rhodes
