That seemed to do the trick

I'm not an expert on this but here is what I have figured out in
relation to similar issues on my side ...
There seem to be three major files for each mailbox folder that consume
large amounts of space when there are lots of messages:
mbox - the actual messages

I subscribe to a lot of mailing lists (and now this one :-) ) and have my
messages sorted into folders, one for each list. These are physical folders,
not vFolders.
Periodically I delete all the mail from most of the mailing list folders,
because I can read the mail from the archives, and I w

I am thinking of migrating my email from Mail.app (from OS X) to
Evolution and would like to know how much email Evolution can handle. I
have roughly 3.5Gigs of email (local) which I keep. Can Evolution handle
this size? Does anyone here have Evolution running with multiple Gigs of
email?

Hello,
I was wandering if anyone could help me to install this without the ximian
desktop. I got all the tarballs and unzipped them and all but it seems like
there's no instructions as to how to install them.
I noticed there were some install.sh files but when I run them, I get an
error saying
Where does Evolution store all of its settings?
I was able to delete my ~/evolution directory (rm -rf!) and yet when I
loaded up Evolution, it still had all my settings and old email in
place. I even deleted ~/.gnome...but my old Evolution settings are still
there when I re-run Evolution.

I have received a number of answers, each of them
useful in its own way, which nevertheless make me
think that I am not totally alone in my confusion.
Thanks to those answers, and to some investigation
I've done on my own, I think I have pulled it off.
Here is a summary of the steps I have take
One of the things I miss most from my Windows days was how drop dead
easy it was to type Extended ASCII characters. Alt + code. That's
all. Worked from any text entry window. If I wanted an enye (n with a
tilde diacritical - I would demonstrate but I have no idea how from my
Evolution window),

It does not work if the current folder is entirely read, and new
messages are in different folder (Evo 1.0.2)...

If it is sorting by subject then it is because the messages that you
have are not setting a In-Reply-To: or References: header. Evolution
uses Message-Ids primarily, but if a message doesn't have a In-Reply-To:
or References: header, then it has no choice but to thread by subject or
not thread at

I would like to know how one can start a web browser
of choice when clicking on a URL included in a message
retrieved by Evolution.
The issue here is that in my Gnome desktop
configuration I have specified that my URL handler is
Galeon. Indeed, applications like the newsreader Pan

How can one enter accented characters when

hi
I've been trying to import a vcf file with multiple entries in it, but
don't think that's the reason why I've been getting evolution-shell
warnings such as
"evolution-shell-WARNING **: Multiple iids can support /home/kwg/1.vcf".
None of the files have been successfully imported.

Hi all,
I feel that the threaded view in evolution-mail isn't working very well.
It seems based on subject (??? why ???).
I used to use gnus that thread mail messages based on their Message-ID
wich are unique, even if someone change the subject inside a thread.

Check to see where evolution ended up - I think the default is /opt/gnome. Try, as root, "find / -name evolution -print". That should eventually show you something like "/opt/gnome/bin/evolution"
In my case (SuSE 7.3), the main gnome install directory is /opt/gnome, and evolution is in /opt
