If it is sorting by subject then it is because the messages that you have are not setting a In-Reply-To: or References: header. Evolution uses Message-Ids primarily, but if a message doesn't have a In-Reply-To: or References: header, then it has no choice but to thread by subject or not thread at

This explains how mail clients are supposed to thread messages: http://www.jwz.org/doc/threading.html Evolution doesn't add the References or In-Reply-To headers when it downloads mail, that is up to the OTHER mail client to do when it sends the messages. Evolution *does* set those headers when
