You can use it for weekday as Character day of week.
=CHOOSE(WEEKDAY(A2),"Sun","Mon","Tue","Wed","Thu","Fri","Sat")
or
=LOOKUP(WEEKDAY(A2),{1,2,3,4,5,6,7},{"Sun","Mon","Tue","Wed","Thu","Fri","Sat"})
