You can use primopdf, which is freeware, and is excellent software.

Files kept in XLSTART folder are always opened when excel starts.
Keep the file you want to open in that folder.

If the cells under consideration can hold only two values, "YES" or "NO",
then may be you can use
Data validation and allow only those two values. In error message, you can
type whatever you want to display.
